Maine Khaukanani Maada is a Makhadzi and a Malombo traditional healer. In Venda culture a Makhadzi is the custodian of the clan and familial traditional customs as well as indigenous knowledge. As a ‘female father’ the Makhadzi is highly respected and honoured and plays an influential roles in initiation ceremonies. Khaukanani has been a healer for the last 21 years and specializes in ethno medicine, cultural preservation and the importance of rites of passages, specifically focusing on the power of the divine feminine. She is invited regularly to speak on all matters pertaining to African Spirituality on various media platforms such as radio and social media and has hosted healing gatherings at her family farm in Limpopo.
